morita marma maesMy name is Morita Marmo and I’d like to tell you a little about myself. Along with my three brothers, I grew up in a small town of 1500 people in Illinois, a largely agricultural state.  I graduated from the University of Illinois with degrees in English, Elementary Education, and Special Education.  I also met and married my husband Michael, and we moved to Cincinnati, Ohio where he taught at Xavier University and I taught children 8-10 years old with learning problems.  When we started a family, I stayed home to care for our daughter Susan and son Peter.  As they grew older I returned to teaching, mostly 5th grade students who are 10 years old..  I retired in 2003 after a 25 year career in education.

Sadly, my husband died in 2008, but happily my children are both grown with families of their own.  My daughter Susan and her husband have a 2 year old little girl, Elana.  They also live in Cincinnati, and I am thrilled to be able to spend a lot of time with my sweet granddaughter.  My son Peter and his wife have two children, a daughter Hannah who is 4 and a son Michael who is 2.  They live in Houston, Texas, so I make many trips to the Southwest to see those lively grandchildren.  Both Susan and Peter are fluent in Spanish and Portuguese.  Regrettably, I am not, but I welcome the opportunity to learn some Spanish while in Guatemala.
